The selection process of a new Ooni of Ife may be delayed as a result of the uncertainty about the reported death of one of the
two main Ile Ife kingmakers, Obalufe of Iremo quarters, Oba Solomon Omisakin, on Thursday.
Obalufe, the leader of the chiefs on the right side of the Ooni and next in rank to him, is also the prime minister of Ife who oversees the town in the absence of an Ooni.
Details of the circumstances surrounding his death were still sketchy at the time of filing this report.
However, the palace kinsmen kept mute on the matter as they repeatedly said: "Obawa lojiji (meaning, his death was sudden.) We
cannot comment on it now, but we will comment later.”
Obalufe, who was also the leader of the Ife royal chiefs was one of the town's kingmakers before he died at the age of 85.
The news of the deceased's death spread across the  ancient town around of Ife at about 1.30 p.m of the day while young and old
including prominent chiefs and "who is who" in the land were seen rushing down to his palace at Iremo to ascertain the truth of  his
death.
